CALL FOR NEW PLAYS:

The Drama Department of Diablo Valley College is announcing a call for new plays for our 2007-2008 season. The theme is The Clash and Celebration of American Cultures. We are looking for dynamic works that explore what defines the American spirit as we enter the 21st Century.
We are looking for one-act plays from 10 minutes in length to 35 minutes on the theme of The Clash and Celebration of American Cultures. They should have minimal set and lighting requirements. They will be performed in our Arena Theatre. The contest is open to all including amateur and professional playwrights. There will be special consideration to current and former Diablo Valley College students. We will select 4-8 works. They will be produced as the last production(s) of the season and will have run of four (4) weeks opening April 25 and closing May 18, 2008. Each playwright chosen will receive a stipend. Ed Trujillo, Drama Area Chair, will direct the plays.
Guidelines
The theme is The Clash and Celebration of American Culture. America encompasses many cultures, values and attitudes and it is what makes us unique. Because of that uniqueness there are often both clashes and celebrations. What conflicts and paradoxes exist in American culture, who are we, and what will we become in the years to come, are a few of the questions we are asking playwrights to explore. Playwrights may cover issues of cultural, racial and ethnic differences, disasters such as Katrina, September 11and others; differences in gender, socio-economic, religion, language, the environment, ordinary evil or any other elements that makes up the American experience can be addressed. We are looking for new and original works, however plays that have been produced and or published within the last two years are eligible.
Partnerships:
Any plays and playwrights selected for The Clash and Celebration of American Cultures call for plays that also meet the guidelines for Ordinary Evil.info Project will be promoted as part of the OrdinaryEvil.info Project.
Requirements:
Each script must be mailed as hard copy along with an electronic version sent via email. Each play must be single sided in 12- point font in standard play format. Please also in include with your hard copy a self-stamped envelope for return. Please include in your cover letter your name, address, phone number, email and fax (if available). The college is not responsible for lost copies.
