Drama Prepares Students for Leadership
Acting, technical theatre, directing and playwriting develop skills of leadership, analysis, public speaking, problem solving, and teamwork. These skills help students in whatever they persue in the future. A student who has studied drama at DVC is prepared for a full and rich life. Whether they decide to make drama their profession or a side light in their life, they will continue to use these skills they learned at Diablo Valley College.
Drama Builds Community Life
Drama, builds unity amongst an audience of diverse age, racial and educational backgrounds. By participating in shared experiences, people who attend dramatic performances can be inspired to look at their own humanity and community and see the world around them more clearly. Drama provokes emotional response and involvement. And this leads to more aware and active community participation.
Join Friends of the Theatre
The DVC Drama Area is currently putting together a Friends of the Theatre organization. The primary focus of the group will be fundraising and marketing for our productions and programs. We are looking for community members who have a strong commitment to educational theatre to join us.
How Your Donations Opens Doors for DVC Drama Students to:
Represent DVC in the National Forum...
For the last thirteen years DVC has excelled at the KCACTF (The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival) and the Next Step Auditions. In previous conference years two students from DVC were the finalists in the Irene Ryan Competition, and won first place. They were awarded a trip to Washington DC to perform at the national festival.
Have Equal Opportunity...
The festival and auditions have provided opportunities for DVC students to be admitted to four -year colleges, and professional theatres. At the last festivals, our students were called back and accepted to professional theatres and four- year colleges: Kinsmen Shakespeare Co., PCPA, CSU Fullerton, B Street Theatre and many others. They also attended and participated in over 25 productions and workshops.
Prepare for their Future...
This conference is not just for actors, but technicians and student directors as well. Many of our students have been offered employment as a result of attending the festival.tes, The Next Step Auditions and Interviews allow students to meet professionals and university representatives from around the United States. The workshops and experiences at the festival provide invaluable opportunities to expand their horizens.
